Providing energy during peak hours- The peak manufacturing hours are during the day which coincides with timings of maximum solar exposure. Hence, factories can choose to shift to solar power and not rely on the grid thereby saving costs in overhead charges. With robust power back-up facilities, factories can even choose to partly power their operations during the night using energy stored in battery packs.

Ease of maintenance- Solar power has no moving parts or complex mechanical components. They are far less liable to equipment fault and breakdown. There is very little maintenance required for solar power. Additionally, solar power is noise-free which further improves its environmental-friendliness.

Ease of customization and flexibility- Utilizing power from the main grid comes with the restrictions that are placed by the grid operators. Factories often do not have the freedom to manage their power supply and optimize their energy expenditure. This freedom is offered by solar power. Through the use of in-house solar panels companies can regulate the power supply and manage their shifts better.

We cannot ignore the fact that we all know that massive corporations all over the world played a big role in this environmental destruction. But some giants who are conscious about societal benefit have decided to mend their ways and find a solution to help save the environment. And one of the solutions that a lot of these corporations have chosen is by associating themselves with solar energy trend which is most opportunistic and positive in upcoming years.

1. Amazon

Gaining on the company who holds the title of first they have a total of 32 rooftop solar systems in the U.S. And these solar power systems are MASSIVE. And just this past year, their installations offset the CO2 equivalent of more than 200 million miles of truck deliveries. Their objective is to reach net zero carbon by 2040. Today, they are having three projects in the process that will produce enough power for more than 67,000 homes!  The facility, located in Scurry County, has more than 100 turbines and will add one million megawatt hours of clean energy to the grid each year.

2. Apple

Currently the fourth largest corporate solar user with the tech firm’s installations power their headquarters in Cupertino, and their solar facilities produce enough electricity to fully charge nearly 45 million iPhones every day for a year.

Apple has announced that its global facilities were powered by 100 percent clean energy.

3. Walmart

Walmart has been powering more stores with solar energy. Looking at the bigger picture, the retail giant wants to slash emissions from its value chain by one billion metric tons by 2030. Wal-Mart has been ranked first or second every year The retail giant boasts 149 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity across nearly 350 roof installations. Roughly 25% of their whole operation is now powered by renewable energy. They would like to have 50% of their operations powered by renewable energy by 2025.

4. General

As per mid-October, GGP’s generating capacity ranked it No. 9 among the Top 10 corporate owners of solar. GP currently owns about 30.2 megawatts, and the projects it still has underway eventually will push that total to more than 37 MW. That’s about one-fifth the capacity of either Target or Walmart.

5. Google

Google has been carbon neutral for over a decade and signed 26 agreements to purchase nearly 3 GW of new renewable energy. Google’s CEO has plans for the biggest renewable energy deal in corporate history – about $2 billion in solar and wind.

They invented sunroof project which is a digital tool to estimate roofs solar potential and covered around 43 million US rooftops.
